Abstract/Summary
The components of the choroform extract of the leaves of Bidens pilosa (Compositae) is investigated in this study.A novel diterpene, phytyl heptanoate, along with stigmasterol, squalene, and fatty acids (elaidic acid and behenic acid) were isolated by column chromatography and thin layer chromatography. Their structures were elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), infrared (IR), and mass spectrometry (MS).To conform the structure of the novel compound, synthesis work was done. A comparison of the spectroscopic data obtained from the isolate and the synthesized phytyl heptanoate revealed that the two are identical. Therefore, the isolate is phytyl heptanoate, C27H52O2, a novel, oily, colorless diterpene.
