Abstract/Summary

This research is the journey of my life, an unremitting effort, and a mingling of blood and tears. However, I firmly believe in the words of the Bible: always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labour is not in vain (1Cor 15: 58). The proposed catechetical program provides opportunities for prayer and reflection. It is aimed at helping the Catholic youth of Nhatrang grow as individuals and Christians as well as giving them an opportunity to get in touch with Jesus Christ through their own cultural roots. To effectively fulfill this task, the youth need to transform themselves more and more in order to be like Jesus. This is no easy task. Much catechesis therefore, is needed and this is the sole purpose of this research. There is, however, no single best method of catechizing. Scriptures, Tradition, and Human Experience all need to be interwoven. This study is intended to help the Catholic youth of Nhatrang strengthen the faith to become living, conscious and active. The proposed catechetical program has been long in the making. This catechetical program is a pedagogical tool, something which helps one convey the truth of faith in a living and effective way, and thus, leading youth to a deeper knowledge of Jesus Christ, both his person and his saving message, in an orderly and progressive manner. There must be adequate pedagogical and broader educational preparation if this program is to communicate effectively the Gospel message. Thus, this program does not simply impart knowledge, but also dispenses truth and inculcates morality. In this regard, there is an unending interaction between faith and action and so it requires that the youth courageously continue the journey with confidence and determination, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Through it, they will find appropriate ways to integrate human values into Christian life so that the Church may not be alienated from the life and culture. In doing so, the Catholic youth of Nhatrang can become more dynamic resources of the Church and the nation in their daily living.
