Abstract/Summary

The group found the current blood services orientation program used by Philippines Red Cross Rizal Chapter, West Rizal branch during blood orientations to be inappropriate for its audience. While there is a PowerPoint presentation, there is no standard program that the trainers follow during the orientation which results in a lack of information, misunderstanding between trainer and [potential blood donors and fear among potential blood donors. This resulted in low turnout in actual blood donations. To resolve this, the researchers created an orientation manual that is focused on targeting the causes of the low turnout of blood donors and standardizing the branchs blood service orientation program.

This manual comes with a CD containing an improved PowerPoint and audio-visual presentation from past blood donations. The whole orientation was translated into Filipino, making it more suitable to its audience. The medical term and other important information were given a more in-dept explanation for better understanding of the blood donation process.

After the testing of the proposed orientation (but without attributing causality), views on blood donation became generally positive. There was also a significant increase of actual blood donors.
