Abstract/Summary
This study aimed to find out if Hydrilla verticillata could take up Pb2+ in solution. The plants were cultured for 96 hours in nutrient free medium with different concentration of Pb2+ (5, 10 & 20 mg/L). The control group was cultured in distilled water. Both experiment and control group were first acclimatized in 10% Hoagland’s solution before treatment. Results indicate that H. verticillata can accumulate Pb2+ despite nutrient starvation. The Pb2+ conc. taken up by H. verticillata was found to be proportional to the Pb2+ concentration in the medium.
