Abstract/Summary
A study was made on the perception of elementary students from selected exclusive schools in Metro Manila regarding superheroes. The study aimed to find out the perceived traits, functions, definitions, favorite superheroes, and whether these superheroes should be imitated. Gender and Grade levels (1-6) were used as variables. Elementary students from St. Paul College-Pasig (exclusive school for females) and Don Bosco-Makati (exclusive school for males) were selected as respondents. A survey questionnaire of 17 questions, 4 of which were answerable by YES or NO, and the rest being open-ended, was administered. Content analysis was used for the data gathered. It was found that elementary students from the selected exclusive schools perceived a superhero as anyone who has power and has the capacity to save and to help. The most favorite superheroes of the males were SUPERMAN, POWER RANGERS and WOLVERINE. On the other hand, the most favorite superheroes of the females were SAILOR-MOON, SUPERMAN and POWER RANGERS. There was not much to compare within the grade levels but gender variable had an impact on the different perceptions of superheroes. It was found that the males were more gravitated toward superheroes than the females.
