Abstract/Summary
Pintura is a 20-minute short film about a young adult named Sabrina Louisa A. Villacortez who is unsatisfied with her typical office, day job. Whenever she's not doing work for her company, she is actually a freelance painter/illustrator who continues to gain more and more clients and followers as she wants to pursue and expand this passion of hers. In the midst of this career dilemma, she meets an unexpected friend in her closet named Ennah, which in the end of the film, we see that it is actually her younger self. This encounter has motivated both Ennah and Sabrina to continue painting despite of the conflicts that both of them have. Sabrina continues to motivate Ennah to pursue painting and never give up amidst the constant nagging and scolding of her parents to stop due to her accumulation of bad grades. Meanwhile, Ennah served as a reminder for Sabrina as to why she started painting in the first place. Cyrus Thomas F. Villacortez, her husband who is unaware of the said phenomenon, is reluctant and unsupportive of this big career jump at first, when he later realizes that Sabrina could do it for good and long term, he comes around, apologizes and starts to support her endeavor.
Pintura aims to serve as a cathartic sign/symbol for people who are scared of taking that leap of faith for their betterment. Most of the time, all we need is that push for us to jump or that burst of inspiration for us to continue trekking the path we are on. Pintura also aims to be that affirmation whenever we encounter doubts and insecurities regarding our work because it serves as a reminder of why we started in the first place. The theme follows the stereotypical response of people whenever someone close to them says they will pursue a career in the arts. It also follows the inner struggle of an artist as she makes big career decisions in her life.
