Abstract/Summary

D.E.B.A.T.E. Foundation Inc. (Debate: Education by Awareness, Training and Exposure) is a non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of debate for learning and social awareness. As a way of creating a formal and legitimate medium for debate, the Foundation created the Annual National Inter-Varsity Debating Championships participated in by leading universities from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and the National Capital Region. The competition employed the Parliamentary style of debate. With its goal of honing the skills of Filipino debaters in order to make them competitive in the international debating arena, the Foundation adapted the Worlds style of debate which is used in the Annual World Universities Debating Championships. The style is relatively new to the country and the Foundation saw the need to promote this style to the youth. The Foundation felt that the best way to provide the information was through the medium of print. In accordance with the needs of the Foundation, the proponents created a print production package consisting of a training manual, annual report and a organizational profile. The manual contains all the rules and regulations of the tournament and the dynamics of the Worlds style of debate. The manual will be disseminated nationwide to the different schools for training. An annual report was also created highlighting the main events in 1996, including their programs, activities, financial information and sponsors. The proponents also furnished a portfolio-type organization profile for the Foundation in order to promote the Foundation to its current and potential sponsors. The profile also includes insertions regarding the main activities that was organized by the Foundation.
