Abstract/Summary
The objective of this study is to synthesize sodium methanethiosulfonates. This compound is often used as the starting material for the synthesis of some thiol-reactive reagents like alkyl and aryl thiosulphonates that are used to label protein1.2. The different methods used were patterned with slight modification from two different approaches Bloxham et al. 1 and Smith et. al. 2. The structure and identity of the synthesized compound was determined by obtaining the physical properties and IR spectroscopy.
