Abstract/Summary

McJanus and Base Graphics Inc. is a locally owned manufacturing company that is wholly subcontracted by QuickM. The company is owned by Mr. Reynaldo M. Calara and is currently located in Marcos Alvarez Avenue, Las Pinas City. McJanus Inc. has three independent departments which are: Compounding and Adhesives Division Print, Coat, and Convert Division and the Graphics Center Division. The Graphics Production Center Division, which produces the automotive decal stickers for QuickM, is the system under study.

In 2005, the company experienced an overall reject rate of 1.98% in their GPC production, this resulted to a reject cost amounting to Php170,042.36 for the company. And an unallowable average reject rate of 0.98% amounts to a total annual cost of P84,162.38. After analyzing this problem, it was discovered that more than 80% of this reject rate was attributed to only the top seven reject types identified in the system. These reject types are: Dirt on Clear, Tear, Ink Smear, Poor Ink Coverage, Print Misregistry, Die Misregistry, and Poor Edge Definition. Solutions on these seven reject types were therefore formulated in order to greatly reduce the current reject rate.

The proposed system was composed of seven different solutions that targeted the causes of the reject types. Some of the solutions were aimed at eliminating the dirt and fiber content inside the GPC work area, while the other solutions are new policies, trainings and schedules that would avoid the man and method related rejects.

The total amount benefit that can be achieved from the implementation of all seven solutions amounts to Php 113,720.91 and the payback period for the whole project is computed to be around 1.22 years.
