Abstract/Summary
Since most educational institutions in the Philippines are encouraging the use of Filipino as a medium of instruction, school requirements such as term paper, reports and assignments are also presented in Filipino. The ability to convey one's idea in Filipino is sometimes hindered by the traditional use of English language, and the lack of utilities with Filipino database in word processing programs today. In line with this, IsPeltSeK was conceptualized. IsPeltSeK is an add-in utility program for DOS-based WordStar versions 4.0-7.0, WordPerfect 5.1, MS Word versions 4.0 & 5.0 and ChiWriter versions 2.08 & 3.11. The system for WordStar and WordPerfect will be implemented as a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program that can be involved while editing a text file. On the other hand, the system for MS Word and ChiWriter is a separate utility that can check the spelling of words on text files created using these two word processors. It aims to support in the detection and correction of misspelled words in text written in Filipino. The concept of IsPeltSeK was based on the spelling checker function of WordStar. When invoked, it will check the text on screen for misspelled words. It will then give the user several words related in spelling to the reported word. Apart from this, IsPeltSeK in the TSR mode also offers thesaurus facility for Filipino words.
