Abstract/Summary

Vitarich Corporation is a Filipino owned company founded by the Sarmiento brothers. It is engaged in the formulation, production, storage and marketing of various animal and aqua feed. The feed product line consists of broiler feeds, layer feeds, hog feeds and aqua feeds. They are also engage in selling day old chicks and hogs. The aqua feed division is the system under study.

The actual production of aqua feeds has a deviation of 4.06% from the targeted production of aqua feed causing the company an annual opportunity net loss of Php 1,284,172.93. After the evaluation of the probable causes, several factors were found to cause the unmet demands which are the following: raw material delay and shortage, electrical and gearbox failure. Also foul odor and unclean working area inside the facility defy the company's goal of good housekeeping.

The proposed solution to improve the system was composed of partnering with other slaughterhouses, repairing the weighing scale of the cooker, installing a PPC program, installing an electrical transformer, installing an agricultural dryer, implementing a preventive maintenance, installing a ventilation system and giving incentives to workers to clean the work area.

The computed net present value of the proposed solution is Php 7,751, 127.32 while the Php 1,383,550 investment made is retrievable in 0.5077 years or 6 and half months. Given these values, it shows that the proposed solutions for the main problem on unmet demand are feasible to implement. Finally, when it comes to the implementation period, based on the Gantt chart that was constructed, these solutions can be completely implemented within approximately 3 and half months.
