Abstract/Summary
The project is a low-cost curve tracer module. It will be used to show the characteristic curves of different semiconductor devices. The module is interfaced to an oscilloscope. This is done by using the oscilloscope's X and Y probes and the Z probe for blanking. The device to be tested will be placed in a slot or socket provided in the module and its characteristic curve will be shown on the oscilloscope. The module basically consists of the following parts: a socket for the different devices to be tested, switches to be used to adjust the characteristic curve, and terminals to be connected to the oscilloscope. The sockets consists of three slots. These slots are for the base, emitter, and collector pin of transistors, for the gate, source, and drain of FETs, and for the gate, anode and cathode of SCRs. Two of these slots will also be used for the diodes to be tested. After providing the necessary inputs to drive the devices being tested, their characteristics curves can be obtained and shown through the oscilloscope. Through the characteristic curves, the different parameters and regions of operations of the different devices can now be derived and used for the desired application.
