Abstract/Summary
The Dimercaptoisotrithione (DMIT) derivative, 4,5-bis(a,a'-dibromo-m-xylyl)- 1,3-dithiole-2-thione, which may act as a precursor for the preparation of cobaltadithiolene complexes, was synthesized.
The preparation involved the addition of a base (CsOH-H2) to a solution of 4,5-bis(2'-cyanoethylthio)-1,3-dithiole-2-thione to produce a DMIT salt which was then reacted in situ with a,a'-dibromo-m-xylene. The compound and the by-products were characterized by melting point determination, 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy.
