Abstract/Summary

Leah Dinamling, a Manila raised Ifugao, fails to attend her beloved Appu Benita's burial. Years after, the Dinamling family experiences strange, mysterious dreams and sickness. Due to this, the Dinamlings decide to conduct a bogwa, an Ifugao burial ritual done to appease the departed love one. Leah takes a break from her city cares and returns to her hometown in Lagawe to give her Appu Benita a proper farewell.

Bogwa is an Ifugao burial practice wherein the relatives exhume the bones of the deceased and conducts another wake different from when the deceased just passed. Bogwa is done if relatives of the deceased experiences misfortunes or disturbing omens. It is believed that the departed relative is not at peace and needs a certain resolution.

In Lagawe, Leah reconnects with her lost lineage, and in the process gains a richer sense of identity.
