Abstract/Summary

This study determined the relationship of relocation factors on the dimension of adjustment. The hypotheses were tested using a multiple regression analysis on data obtained from 150 American expatriates currently working in the Philippines. The results suggest that job factors are significantly related to the self-oriented dimension and socio-cultural factors are not necessarily related to the self-oriented dimension of adjustment. In addition, results in another multiple regression test suggest that job factors are not significantly related to others-oriented dimension. Although, results also suggest that socio-cultural factors are significantly related to the others-oriented dimension of adjustment. A different approach was shown in measuring the relationship of relocation factors and the adjustment process of an expatriate. The dimensions of adjustment were shown to be mutually exclusive. The findings are valuable for researchers and practitioners. From a theoretical perspective, the study contributes to the research in adjustment of American expatriates in the Philippine setting. Practitioners can use these data to assess expatriate worker development and improve international assignments training programs.
