Abstract/Summary

This study examined the intense-personal level of celebrity worship of Filipino college students. The Celebrity Attitude Scale was initially administered to measure the level of celebrity worship of the potential participants (entertainment-social, intense-personal, or borderline-pathological level). Only the participants who scored the highest in the intense-personal level were included. The participants consist of one male and six females. The study looked into the likable characteristics of the celebrity, the beliefs of the worshippers as to why the celebrity is influencing them, and the behavior exhibited by the worshipper in relation to the influence. The results showed that the intense-personal level worshippers liked the celebrity for his or her qualities, admitted being influenced because of positive effects they get from worshipping, and showed changes in behavior and viewpoints. Findings in previous studies were also confirmed in this study such as the formation of attachment and the establishment of parasocial relationships.
