Abstract/Summary

Container-related transportation activities have grown remarkably over the last 10 years and the trend does not show any signs of slowing down. Many studies have been made on how to improve container terminal operations and most of these studies have decomposed the terminal operations into sub-problems for the convenience of modeling and solution. Scheduling vehicles and equipment frequently arises in logistics system and these problems have been extensively studied under different settings. Effective and efficient scheduling of yard crane operations is essential to guarantee a smooth and fast container flow in a container terminal thus, this research is dedicated to the scheduling of yard trucks and yard cranes to perform a given set of loading jobs while considering inter-crane interference and prioritization placement in the vessel. The model is formulated as a mixed-integer programming model and solved using CPLEX in General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS). Multiple runs were conducted using GAMS to determine the interaction between parameters and its effects on the response of the model. A sensitivity analysis was also conducted to determine the sensitivity of the model to changes in the value of parameters and to changes the sensitivity of the model to changes in the value of parameters and to changes in the model's structure. Results obtained were given conclusions, and recommendations for further studies were stated for future improvement of the formulated model.
