Abstract/Summary

Acute toxicity test was conducted to determine the mortality rate of Trachpenaeus fulvus exposed to different concentrations of Axion and Joy Ultra. The 96-hr LC50 value of Axion and Joy Ultra to Trachypenaeus fulvus was also determined. Three replicates having 10 shrimps each were used per concentration. It was shown in the results of the definitive test that the mortality of Trachypenaeus fulvus increased by increasing the concentration of the detergents. Shrimps exposed to 0.50 ppm of Axion was observed to have a 26.67% mortality. A 33.33 % mortality was observed in 0.80 ppm. A 36.67% and 43.33% mortalities were recorded at 1.10 and 1.40 ppm, respectively. At 1.70 ppm, 50.00% was recorded and 53.33% mortality at 2.00 ppm. A 56.67% and 63.33% mortalities were observed at 2.30 ppm and 2.60 ppm, respectively. A mortality of 100 % was recorded at 6.50 ppm. The control group showed 6.67 % mortality. The 96-hr LC50 value of Axion computed using the Trimmed Spearman-Karber Analysis was 1.747 ppm. In the definitive test using Joy Ultra, shrimps exposed to 3.50 ppm and 3.80 ppm had 40.00% and 43.33% mortality, respectively. At 4.10 ppm, 46.67% mortality was observed. Mortalities of 50.00%, 53.33% and 56.67% were observed at 4.40 ppm, 4.70 ppm and 5.00 ppm, respectively. At 5.30 ppm, 56.67% mortality was recorded. Shrimps exposed to 5.60 ppm and 5.90 ppm, both have a mortality of 63.33%. A mortality of 100% was recorded at 16.5 ppm. The control group also showed 6.67 mortality. The 96-hr LC50 value of Joy Ultra computed using the Spearman-Karber Analysis was 4.490 ppm. Based on these results, it was observed that Axion is more toxic to Trachypenaeus fulvus than Joy Ultra.
