Abstract/Summary

The study aimed to identify the characteristics and coping strategies utilized by Filipino self-actualizers. The method used to gather the data was unstructured interview. The research design was descriptive. The subjects of this study were selected through the use of purposive and convenience sampling for answering SA inventory. There were 6 subjects all in all, three females and three males. The findings of the study revealed that the characteristics manifested by the subjects tend to be similar to Maslow's 15 characteristics. There are 10 additional unique characteristics of Filipino self-actualizers. These are as follows: sincerity in friendships, self-development, self-confidence/ self-esteem, stress tolerance, positive outlook/ optimism, intellectual capability and thought, being steadfast in one's relationship with God, being Christian in one's ideal, physical well-being and appearance, and lastly attractive personality. Some of the characteristics are coping resources of the subjects as well. Four of them primarily use preventive coping and the remaining two utilize combative. Generally, self-disclosure was found to be the most common coping strategy among them which was under combative coping in Matheney's model.
