Abstract/Summary
The change in fluid and crystallized intelligence and the influence of age, gender, years of education and personal adjustment on such changes were studies, utilizing 110 subjects, both male and female, from ages 16-70. Hypotheses are: a) there is an age-related pattern of change in fluid and crystallized intelligence, b) there is significant relationship between gender, years of education and personal adjustment, c) gender, years of education and personal adjustment influence fluid and crystallized intelligence. The descriptive-correlational design was used. In measuring intelligence, the Wechsler Adult intelligence scale-revised (WAIS-R) block design and arithmetic tests were used. The Heston Personal Adjustment Inventory was also used to measure six components of personal adjustment namely - analytical thinking, emotional stability, sociability, confidence, personal relations and home satisfaction. Results showed that fluid intelligence is predicted by years of education, age and home satisfaction while crystallized intelligence is predicted by education, home satisfaction, personal relations and analytical thinking. There is also an age-related change in fluid intelligence. However, age-related pattern of change was not proven in crystallized intelligence.
