Abstract/Summary

This thesis captures how mining defaces the natural landscape of the region, pollutes the environment, and puts people living along the mines at risk as observed by this proponent during his two week immersion in their community.

Some have already been sick because of toxic flotation agents have been accidentally released in nearby rivers. The mine is both a gift and a curse to their community, creating jobs but slowly degrading their well being.

The key feature of this thesis identifies that the government should be encouraged to keep tract of mining operations, amend laws, and impose stiff fines and penalties for violators.
