Abstract/Summary

Carmen Guerrero Nakpil is one of the many other woman essayists in the Philippines. But as a Filipina, she is not put in the forefront of Philippine literature because of her gender, nationality and the genre that she writes in. This study will analyze and highlight that not only can Carmen Guerrero Nakpil be considered as a female writer, but also a thinker in the sense that she incorporates her feministic ideals through her essays.

This study will be using Toril Moi’s thought of conceptualizing the “body as a situation” and Leigh Gilmore’s “Self-representation” in analyzing Carmen Guerrero Nakpil and how she represents herself and more importantly her ideas through a number of essays included in her anthology entitled Woman Enough and Other Essays.
