Abstract/Summary

Five public markets were sampled for the presence of enteric pathogen, Salmonella and Shigella. Chopping boards were chosen for this study, to stress the role of inanimate objects in the transmission of harmful organisms and infections. Chopping boards were swabbed and isolated enteric organisms were analyzed by their reaction to the different biochemical tests performed for their identification. Of the total 25 chopping boards swabbed, two were found to be positive of Salmonella. Shigella was negative for all the sites sampled.
