Abstract/Summary
Biological assay for anticancer activity of the partially purified isolates of local Vinca rosea Linn showed positive inhibitory activity against Ehrlich Ascites Tumor Cells (EATC). Fractionation of the active constituent which maybe present in the plant was modified from the methodology of Svoboda (Lilly 1979) and four alkaloids were found to be present. Partial purification of the active alkaloidal fraction using thin layer chromatographic procedures was conducted with on of the four alkaloids of the experimental plant, vincaleucoblastine and under the ultraviolet light showed similar color effect as that of the reference alkaloid, vinblastine.
