Abstract/Summary
The study is primarily motivated by the following rationale: (1) the recent interesting developments in the Philippine real estate industry, with much concentration on how it survived the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. (2) The minimal number of studies devoted to the efficiency, growth, and stability of the major real estate companies in the country. (3) The significance of the real estate industry performance to the development of the country, hence, the needed support in enhancing its operations. For this study, major real estate companies were identified to determine how much had they influenced the industry performance. The selected financial ratios (including asset size, net income, debt ratio, investor’s confidence, average collection period, fixed assets to sales ratio and net profit margin) aimed to measure the efficiency, growth, and stability of the real estate companies were computed and studied to better understand each company performance in relation to that of the industry’s. The relationships among the variables were tested to discover which measure can aptly assess the efficiency, growth, and stability of the real estate industry. Results provide which among the aforesaid measures have significant relationship to the industry averages, and therefore can be used as the superior gauge (of efficiency, growth, and stability) to concentrate on to steer the companies towards an effectively performing industry.
