Abstract/Summary

Made in the Philippines is a three-part article series that gives an in depth perspective on the current landscape of sustainable fashion in the country. The entry article delves into the local fashion scene and looks into how it is affected  by the social and environmental issues that surround the global industry. The second article dives into four sustainable fashion brands and the innovative business models they have adapted to address a specific problem in the industry. The final article discusses the global initiatives brought upon by different sectors and addresses whether a model of sustainable fashion can be effective and efficient in the country.
The project was conceptualized by the proponent. Through fieldwork and various interviews with different stakeholders in the fashion industry including sustainable fashion business owners, fashion professors, sustainably-oriented organizations, government agency, a labor union and seamstresses, data was collelcted and developed into a connecting story. Photographs were alsi captured of the interviewees, their workplace and the different stages of production. After the writing of the articles, the proponent created a website and laid out the text and photos in a digestible manner for readers to view.
