Abstract/Summary

The research applied the Cultured-Centered Approach (Dutta, 2008) to explore parents shared meanings and experiences on SRH and HIV/AIDS ub rural and urban areas in the Philippines. Using semi-structured interviews, parents' meanings and experiences established on their culture, structure, and agency that shape their understandings were analyzed. Results show that parents' perceptions on SRH and HIV/AIDS are based on their culture of being family-centered and beliefs on sexual prejudice. These understandings were further influenced by available structures that provide an avenue to discuss SRH and HIV/AIDS in their communities. Ultimately, the research shows that parents are willing to learn more and educate their early adolescent children about SRH and HIV/AIDS depending on their maturity. The data provides preliminary evidence and recommendations for Positive Action Foundation Philippines Incorporated (PAFPI) in creating initiativves for parents to communicated SRH and HIV/AIDS to their early adolescent children and reduce the risk of acquiring the disease.
