Abstract/Summary

The present study explored the experiences of individuals who have committed infidelity. This qualitative research presented a full description of the phenomenon by presenting themes and sub-themes that emerged from the responses of the participants. Furthermore, this study looked into how individuals who have committed infidelity understand their experience. This study consisted of five participants who are Filipino college students aged 19-25 years old. Data gathering was done through semi-structured interviews, and interpretative phenomenological analysis was used in analyzing the data collected. Three main themes were generated - being in a dilemma, self-discovery, and perspectives on committing infidelity. Eight sub-themes emerged from the results, with five of the sub-themes under being in a dilemma and three under self-discovery. The participants understood their experience as an incident wherein they experienced difficulty, before, during, and after committing infidelity, and that they have learned more about themselves through this experience.
