Abstract/Summary
Tuberculosis remains to be the fourth leading cause of death in the Philippines. It has been a chronic disease that devastates each and every individual residing in the country. Despite of its occurrence for more than a century, Filipinos never learned to cope and recover with this situation for it is such a complex problem. It is therefore urgent to act on this matter as concerned individuals as a way of addressing this health challenge which is continuously devastating millions and millions of individuals, families and local economies.
Many great and prominent individuals such as Manuel L. Quezon, the first President of the Commonwealth, died of this disease. Individuals do not want that their future be grasp by tuberculosis, which remains a big threat. TB is a sudden thief of Filipino lives, since 75 Filipinos die each day of TB. We should take action immediately because anybody who breathes air can be infected. It is an action of prevention and to be aware of the important things, such as its symptoms, will make us fight its spread. As we usually say, an ounce of prevention is worth above than a pound of cure.
The country should act now before it's too late for us to fight this highly contagious disease. Despite of the rapid increase in population, awareness is still low in terms of general public awareness (PHILCAT, 1993). Public information is indeed timely for every person to know and act on TB and to face its challenges as a community that builds a healthy nation.
