Abstract/Summary
This study aims to determine the in-store attributes Arrow, Theme, Mossimo, JAG, and Pink Soda employ, the strategies that influenced these decisions, and subsequent areas for improvement. In-store attributes included in this study are (1) Store Environment, (2) Product Selection and Availability, (3) Sales Staff Service Quality, and (4) Sales Promotions. The methodology employed in this descriptive paper are interviews with company representatives; consumer insight was also obtained via focus group discussion as supplemental information on the sales staff service quality attribute. Store visits were also conducted to observe the attributes firsthand. Whether in-store attributes are appropriate can be said to be dependent on target market and the brand image, resulting in very distinct attributes. Given limited space and resources, trade-offs are inevitable, and the way in which these are managed are dependent on the retailer’s goals for their brand. Recommendations for store environment are to create more distinct concepts to create a unique retail experience. Product selection and availability should be strategically planned to arrive at the profitable mix of items, and to provide consumers with ample options. Sales staff service quality should be improved in order to create a better quality of interaction between the customer and the company. Sales promotions, although enticing for shoppers, should be strategically planned so as not to deviate from the brand’s overall image.
