Abstract/Summary

This research study is about the process of adjustment of women with disabled husbands. Of primary focus in this research were the factors that helped these women deal with their adjustment upon the occurrence of the accident that had caused their husband to lose a limb. Indepth interviews were conducted with 3 women who were faced with the trauma of having to deal with their husbands' sudden physical disability.

From the interviews conducted, the study found out that the family plays a big role in these women's adjustment. Also, since it is the family that directly felt the effects of the disability of the head, it was not only the disabled person who had to go through a process of adjustment.

This study's contribution is in terms of providing empirical information on how family members, particularly the wife, adjust to the situation where the head of the family suddenly suffers loss of limb. These women ended up with a three-fold adjustment process: helping herself adjust to the new family situation, helping her husband adjust to his disability, and helping her children adjust to the disability of their father.

The resiliency nature of the 3 women interviewed for this study was a clear trend in the outcome of the study.
