Abstract/Summary
The physico-chemical and bacteriological quality of swimming pool water at Filinvest Homes 1 Clubhouse in Batasan Hills, Quezon City was analyzed. The parameters considered in this study were pH, temperature, total solids, chlorine content, as well as heterotrophic plate count (HPC) and presence of fecal coliforms and staphylococci.
Results of the physico-chemical analyses showed that the pH reading at week 3 (August 2-8) went as low as 3 in the same way that the pH readings at weeks 6 and 9 (September 27-October and November 8-21) were also low ranging from 4.7 (morning) to 4.8 (afternoon) and 5.6 (morning and afternoon) respectively. The mean temperature readings throughout the weeks (Week 1-9) were relatively the same, ranging from 28 to 31 centigrade. The mean concentrations of total solids were very low that the percentage increase ranged from 2 to 13%. Nonetheless, the mean chlorine concentrations of weeks 1 and 7 (July 19-25 and October 4-17) were both 0.1 mg/L.
Results of the bacteriological analyses showed that 22% of the 36 samples analyzed exceeded 200 CFU/ml. In all of the 36 samples analyzed, fecal coliforms were absent while staphylococci were present.
The parameters generally conform with the standards for the quality of swimming pool water set by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Department of Health (DOH) except for pH, chlorine content and HPC in certain samples.
