Abstract/Summary

Youth's sex behavior is a social concern. Previous research in this area unusually focused on its psychological aspect. A sociological understanding is then given importance in the study as the perception of selected Filipino youths on intimacy among unmarried couples is gained. In this study, a sample of 120 respondents (60-UP Manila and 60 DLSU) was surveyed to compare their perceptions on the particular aspects of physical intimate in intimate relationships: definition of physical intimacy, respondents' attitudes, values and experiences on intimacy based on the factors considered different manifestations of intimate behavior. Data was analyzed through uni-variant and bi-variant analysis. Results showed that there is a difference in the perception of UP and DLSU respondents regarding the definition of physical intimacy and the perceive responses to reactions toward public manifestation of intimate behavior. DLSU respondents tend to be more liberal than UP respondents as DLSU respondents favor coital acts done if private whereas UP respondents preferred non-coital acts done in public. Implications of these results for future research are also considered.
