Abstract/Summary

This descriptive study sought to determine the characteristics associated with involvement or non-involvement of the youth in parish-based organizations. (i.e. Mt. Carmel Parish in Quezon City). This study was conducted through surveys and interviews.Members of parish-based organizations in this study were chosen through simple random sampling and snowball sampling was used on the non-members coming from the same parish.Interview schedules were used to find out the background of the respondents, their needs, religiosity school and family as a factor in their involvement or non-involvement. For the members it further probes about their membership on the organization and effects upon such involvement. Also, an interview guide was used on key informants to gather background and supplementary information about the parish-based organization. The findings indicate that an individual's religiosity is the primary factor that distinguishes members from non-members of parish-based youth organizations. There are also other factors that contribute to participation, namely, family, school, hidden motives and the organization.
