Abstract/Summary
Dermhaus Trading Inc. (DTI) is a fast-growing company involved in the selling of pharmaceutical products. Its Accounting Department records all business transactions of the company while the Inventory Division strives to control the activities involving receipts and issuances of stocks to the company's different customers or branches.Having to handle a big bulk of transactions manually has been a tedious and slow process for the Accounting Department. A number of books have to be kept in order to cope with customers credits, company's payable and the like. The department's staff has experienced delays in preparing reports because of such situation. With a continuing increase in the number of suppliers and items, inventory has become an important issue for the company. Problems have also beset DTI's inventory because of lack of control. Focus of the issue is for the company to have an effective inventory control in managing its stocks. In the light of these two concerns, an improvement in the accounting and inventory systems for the company has become imperative for it to be able to improve work processes in the two departments. But rather than having a separate and distinct system for each department, an inventory control system integrated with the accounting system would be more beneficial for DTI.The development of an Accounting Information System with Inventory Control is not only timely but essential for the company to be able to improve its operations. An information system can be teh best feasible solution to the problems currently faced byt he two
departments. The design of the Accounting Information System with Inventory Control involves two main modules: one for accounting and another for inventory. The system is integrated such that accounting files are automatically updated by an inventory transaction. The accounting information system is also designed to accept transactions that are classified either as Cash Receipts, Cash Disbursements and Journal Voucher.Sales transaction of DTI that are processed in inventory are also integrated with the accounting module. An end-of-month processing is also handled in the system such that when the accountant chooses to do end-of-month processing, the inventory file is updated to show beginning balances and produce an inventory valuation for the accounting department. The proposed Accounting Information System with Inventory Control was customized for use of Dermhaus Trading Incorporated. It was designed to meet various needs of the company while exercising jurisprudence in research, observation and study of the system. The overall impact of the Accounting Information System with Inventory Control would enable the Accounting Department and Inventory Division of DTI to function more effectively despite the increasing number of transactions each year. If used effectively, the system can become the center in the accounting department's operations and be used as a model for the company's other departments.
