Abstract/Summary
A study on edible crustaceans (shrimps and crabs) was conducted from November to March 1995-1996 in Quezon City. Selected wet market were chosen namely: Nepa-Q-Mart Fairview and Cubao, Tayabas Market, Aurora Market, and River View Market. Collection was done for five months, conducting a total of three visits in three different time frames. A total of fourteen species of shrimps and crabs were collected and identified eleven species of shrimps and three crabs. The eleven species of shrimps identified were classified into three families and four genera. The family includes Sergestidae, Penaeidae and Paleomonidae. Six of the identified species of shrimps belonged to the genus Penaeus, two belong to the genus Metapenaeus, two from Macrobrachium, and one belong to the genus Acetes. Species of shrimps identified were Acetes sp., Penaeus monodon, Penaeus semisulcatus, marginatus Metapenaeus ensis, Metapenaeus affinis, Leander sp. and Macrobrachium lar. The three species of crabs were classified into two families, three genera and three species. For Family Portunidae includes the genus Scylla and Portunus while Family Grapsidae includes Varuna. The species of crabs includes Scylla serrata, Portunus pelagicus, Varuna litterata.
