The researchers of this exploratory-descriptive study aimed to answer two general problems, the ways in which cases are settled in Barangay Vitalez and the perceptions of the disputants regarding the dispute settlement of their case. The researchers did a case study of 10 selected cases which were settled in the barangay from 1990 to 1991. By interviewing the Barangay Captain, the Barangay Recorder and the 20 disputants, the researchers were successful in answering the research problems. The study found that with regard to the Barangay Justice System in Barangay Vitalez, 73 percent of the cases presented from 1990 to 1991 were settled. The study also found that Barangay Vitalez have made modifications of P.D. 1508, one of which is the use of Joint mediation-arbitration. Lastly, the study found that the disputants were satisfied with the dispute settlement if it was fair and the agreed settlement was satisfactory. However, cost and time element of dispute settlement, and their relationships were not given much importance by the disputants.
