Abstract/Summary
Many microfinance institutions in the Philippines has emerged which have claimed to offer help to the poor by giving out loans and thereby solving poverty. This study examines how effective a microfinance institution in the Philippines like Ahon sa Hirap, Inc. is in meeting its purpose to help alleviate poverty and how it empower its women clients. It is specifically measured through the evaluation of ASHI’s vision and mission on how much it has attained it. Nine variables were used to assess the vision and mission these are: (1) inspiring marginalized women, (2) responds to social and environmental concerns, (3) servant leaders, (4) solidarity with its clients, (5) rising from poverty, (6) God-given dignity, (7) innovation, (8) excellent service and (9) expertise. The data gathered consists of interviews and surveys from ASHI. The survey had a total of 160 respondents which was conducted in the province of Rizal since it was the branch that had the largest number of members. Results showed that Ahon sa Hirap, Inc. have only achieved 56% of their mission vision statements. From the 9 variables, 5 of them namely inspiring marginalized women, responds to social, innovation and environmental concerns, servant leaders and solidarity with its clients, can be considered as fully attained. However, rising from poverty, God-given dignity, excellent service and expertise need to be improved and developed.
