Abstract/Summary
The traditional way of sorting table eggs is done using egg-weight sorting machines. Eggs are weighed then classified according to how heavy they are, regardless of their length and size. The researchers are able to study the egg production system of Joson Farms. Currently, the said company is experiencing difficulties in sorting eggs through the use of the weight sorting machine, after which, eggs are further manually inspected to check if height among the previously sorted eggs are evenly arranged. Uneven height among weight-sorted eggs in trays, have caused frequent formation of cracks on eggs during the course of delivery, which have cost them a lot in their production system.
This project therefore aims to minimize the problems the Joson Farms have been currently facing. In achieving this objective, the group developed the Height-Labeling Egg Sorter to sort eggs by height and labels each egg indicating their size classification. The proposed conversion from manual sorting to automated sorting of table eggs was able to reduce the number of rejected eggs from 15% to 5%. Based from a comparative study, it was also observed that an increase in the rate of production can be expected and costs can be lessened through the use of the Height–Labeling Egg Sorter.
