Abstract/Summary

The study aimed to investigate and solve the tribulations that will be encountered by the vicinity of Barangay Mariblo and Barangay Paraiso, due to the proposed rehabilitation of Mariblo Bridge. Through the aid of studying the effects of the bridge rehabilitation, we have determined the impact of the rehabilitation among the citizens, motorists and business establishments of the locality. The traffic flow of vehicles, including its volume count and time travel, in Roosevelt avenue and in other roads (namely West avenue and Gen. Araneta avenue), that will lead to the locality of Barangay Mariblo and Barangay Paraiso, have been resolute. We have also conducted interviews in the different parts of the district, which includes drivers of both private and public utility vehicles, owners of different commercial establishments, and small and large-scale industries, residents, and public officials. With these investigations based from the different surveys, an analysis of the effects of the rehabilitation of the bridge to the people and economy have brought out a major setback in the vicinity.

The study sought to find the best alternatives to solve a major predicament in the place brought by the planned rehabilitation of the bridge. In cases like this, the alternative of rerouting vehicles has always been the solution of public officials to avoid traffic problems and complaints from the citizen affected. Based from this study, the paper proved that the alternative of rerouting the vehicles to other roads is not enough to solve the problem, but instead created another problem to those indirectly affected by the rehabilitation.

The paper proposed another alternative that would ease out the burden of rerouting vehicles to other roads. With the problems arising from the analysis of the surveys and environmental and economic impacts of the proposed rehabilitation of the bridge, an alternative of constructing a segmental steel bridge attested to be possibly the best solution to recuperate from its effects. The segmental steel bridge was designed in the way that it can be installed be built on site in a least amount of time.
