Abstract/Summary

Payment Centres have been established to make the payment of bills easier and less time consuming for the consumers. This study hereby aims to develop a real-time and automated Payment Centre to Corporate Information Solutions (CIS) system with the use of Smart Card technology. Two terminals (representing Payment Centres) will send completed transactions to the central server (representing the CIS), which will update its database and then send the necessary updates through File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to the respective merchant. Each of the two merchants then updates their database and sends new updates to the central server, also through FTP. After each transaction the amount stored in the Smart Cards will be decreased by the amount paid for the bill. The central server also monitors all the transactions that were conducted for each day and stores them in the database.
