Abstract/Summary
The increasing popularity and widespread use of mobile devices has led to the demand of desktop features to be available on these portable devices. Today's devices have multimedia and network capabilities for multimedia streaming to become a reality. Although capable, mobile devices still have limited resources and power as compared to desktop computers. Thus, migrating multimedia streaming to mobile devices requires tailoring the streaming system to the mobile computing environment. Designing a multimedia streaming system for mobile devices requires the creation of codecs for the mobile player. The system to be developed includes an interface for the user to select and search for the audio or video to be streamed, a server that will manage the multimedia content, and the multimedia player for the handheld device.
