Abstract/Summary
A study of marine gastropod shells was conducted last March, May and September of 1995 at the Locloc point of Sigayan Bay in Laiya, San Juan, Batangas. The study site has a sandy substratum with a few small stones near the shore. Collections were done from mid-morning to afternoon. The area of collection was about 400 meters along the stretch of the beach reaching to about 4 feet deep. A total of 39 species were collected, identified and classified into 2 subclasses, 5 orders, 3 suborders, 12 superfamilies, 20 families and 23 genera. Out of the 39 species, the genus Conus is the most represented with 9 species, namely: C. aulicus, C. ebraeus, C. fulvobulatos, C. litoglyphus, C. imperialis, C. magus, C. moluccensis, C. purpurrascens and C. virgo. There were 3 species under genus Strombus, namely: S. canarium, S. labiatus and S. aurisdianae 3 species under genus Terebra, T. dimidiata, T. maculata, T. subulata 3 species under genus Oliva, O. reticulata, O. mustellma and O. elegans 2 species under genus Lambis, L. scorpius and L. chiragra and 2 species under genus Vexillum, V. rugosum and V. rugosum and V. vulpecula. The other species identified were Tibia fusus, Phalium areola, Cerithium articulatum, Eunaticina papilla, Tectus fenestratus, Turbo chrysostomus, Angaria delphinus, Cypraea annulus, Volema carinifera, Pyrene epamella, Peristernia incarnata, Fasciolaria trapezium, Mitra mitra, Voluta vespertilio, Murex tenuirostrum, Pyramidella acus and Bulla vernicosa.
