Abstract/Summary
Executive Summary. The study focuses on the Manufacturing Operations department of Nissan Motors Philippines, Inc. The study is concerned with the metal line department of the body shop department of NMPI since it is the only observable place in the company. Among the product line of the company, the B-14 model of SENTRA SERIES 111 type vehicle was considered for the study since the B-14 is considered as the bulk of the production.
After a careful analysis of the weaknesses, opportunities and threats regarding their respective seriousness, urgency, resources, and growth, the problem is identified to be NMPI has an average defect rate of 5,206 per unit and its rectification resulted to an opportunity loss of Php, 1,056,338.40 due to an average excess of 1.278 minutes on the tact time of the forth workstation .
The problem is primarily caused by the following improper installation of welding jig in the brazing operation, accidental collision of parts in the fitting operation, misjudgment in bumping, lack of protective covering, sanding paper deterioration, uneven force applied by workers, excessive bumping, over welding, sanding machine malfunction, and rectification flaws. The effects of the problem on the other hand are line stoppage and an opportunity loss of Php 1,056,338.40 per year due to the excess minutes consumed by rectification.
With the proposed system, a total initial cost of Php 2,860.50 will be incurred by NMPI. Also, they will have total monthly cost of Php 30.43. However, the company will be able to generate quantitative and qualitative benefits. For quantitative benefits, NMPI would be able to save as much as Php 1,056,338.40 per year. And for qualitative benefits, NMPI would be able to experience a smooth flow of operation in the metal line department and their workers will be quality oriented.
