Abstract/Summary

Executive Summary. PULP, Inc. is a manufacturer of Modess Feminine Napkins and Carefree Pantyshields. It is a subcontractor of Johnson and Johnson (J & J), Philippines in manufacturing sanitary paper products. The main goal of the company is to manufacture products of high quality that meet the demands of its customers.

The systems study focuses on the production department of the said company particularly on the problem of increasing the company's machine efficiencies to meet the standards set by J & J, Philippines. The recorded average machine efficiencies are 20% below the standard. The main cause of this low efficiency is the frequent (86.64%) occurrence of the major machine part failures.

The proposed solution is a revised machine maintenance schedule which is a combination of a monitoring system using revised checklists and a scheduling program for the machine parts maintenance. Seminars and quality circles are suggested to ensure proper knowledge on the area of concern as well as to ensure that policies are being observed.

The total net benefit/savings for the proposed solution was calculated at P 3,393,653 per month.

It is recommended that an in depth knowledge of the technical and the mechanical aspects of the machines should be made by the company to improve the system.
