Abstract/Summary
Executive Summary. Far East Network of Integrated Circuit and Subcontractors (FENICS), Incorporated is a Filipino-owned company engaged in assembly and test manufacturing of plastic packages and hermetic packages. The study was focused on the production of the hermetic packages (LCC and Metal Cans) for the period of April 1999 until July 2000. Specifically, it will start from the die mounting operation until the packaging of the products. The study made a review of the present system involved in the area of concern. It was found that for LCC the company is capable of producing 207,360 units per month while for Metal Cans it is 286,752 units per month. With the company's present performance in undergoing its operational activities, the company incurred a monthly unmet target output equivalent to 19.18%. For every unmet output generated, the company incurs an equivalent shipping cost. At present, this cost is equal to Php 905,400. The main causes derived from the Pareto Analysis shows that machine downtime and time lost due to operator's searching for tools are the causes that needs to be given proper actions by generating alternative solutions that will counteract the causes. Possible increase in output brought by each alternative solution is likewise determined. A set of Musts and Wants are provided by the thesis proponents in order to aid in the evaluation of each alternative for the decision analysis. Upon analysis, the study proposed purchasing of two additional wire bonding machines implementation of Tool Monitoring Program and Preventive Maintenance Program. These solutions to prove feasibility for the company's implementation were evaluated using Cost-Benefit Analysis. The Cost-Benefit Analysis revealed that all solutions were feasible to be put into practice. Lastly, a schedule of activities involved in implementing the proposed system is presented using a Gantt Chart.
