Abstract/Summary
Due to the present market entry of event management software to the Metro Manila event industry, as well as the widespread utilization of event management software internationally, the researchers found the need and interest to conduct an exploratory study on the impact of event management tools, namely event management software and event management modules.
The researchers identified whether event management tools could bring better performance to the three stages of event management namely: planning, implementation, and event proper among the selected event firms in Metro Manila. To support the problem statement, the study was designed towards (1) analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of using event management tools to the event firms within Metro Manila, (2) determining the use or functionality of event management tools in event companies and (3) providing an analysis of whether the integration of event management tools can possibly overcome the problems encountered in the manual system.
The researchers utilized the Delone and Mclean Information System Success Model to evaluate the quality of the tools and its impact towards the organization. Furthermore, appropriate research instruments like interview and survey were included in the methodology to support and provide information for the study. Purposive sampling was implemented as the method for data gathering, wherein the survey questionnaires were given to event companies that fit the criteria set by the researchers. On the other hand, interviews were conducted with five different professionals.
The data gathered from 37 out of 69 target respondents presented that the use of event management tools was not evident in the Metro Manila event industry. In fact, most of the respondents had been practicing manual ways in event managing, with the aid of application software, due to minimal knowledge about event management tools. However, they were open-minded with regard to integration of event management software. Given that there was no trace of event management software users, the researchers were only able to assess the impact of application software and event management modules.
Modules are considered as one particular component of event management software that address to the need of specific segment, while application software are referred as the basic programs that perform single or multiple tasks. Research findings illustrated that even though the use of application software showed better management in handling events, it cannot solve the main concerns of most event organizers. Nevertheless, results reflected good quality evaluation on the adopted event management modules, wherein these modules create net benefits to the event management companies. Hence, the study concluded that event management modules had manifested better performance with regard to event planning, implementation and event proper among the respondents.
The study aspired to provide significant contributions to the event industry, the academic institutions, and future researchers. Through the findings, the researchers encouraged the application of event management software and modules as tools for event management. Moreover, the group also recommended various topics to guide future researchers in conducting more in depth study on the said field.
