Abstract/Summary

An eBook reader is the integration of digital technology and traditional book reading. And with the development of social networking sites, people often communicate with their peers online. And the existing eBook readers do not integrate a social community. The application integrates the existing eBook readers functionalities with a social network.

The significance of this thesis is to give the users the ability to do activities beyond reading which in include interaction between users by sharing annotations, attaching digital media contents, such as pictures and videos, to the annotations and interactive reading. Together with interaction among the users in the social network, the system gives out book recommendations to the user. The basis of the recommender system of the application is limited only to the users web of friends.

Testing shows that users found the addition of a Social Network to be useful in terms of sharing annotations and lending eBooks, as well as receiving recommendations. A percentage of 81.6 are given to the Annotations feature. A percentage of 82 are given to the Recommendations feature. The Social Network is given a rating of 83.4. An over-all rating of 75.8 percent is given to the application
