Abstract/Summary

Piracy is defined as the reproduction and distribution of copies of copyright-protected material, or the communication to the public and making available of such material on on-line communication networks, without the authorization of the right owner or owners. Piracy has cost billions of losses in every economy, but has always been overlooked by countries. This study examines the effects of piracy in the economies of Italy, Mexico, and the Philippines, and tries to assess the effectiveness of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), an international regime that is responsible for the protection of Intellectual Property.
