Abstract/Summary
Mobile Picture Books is an extension of the Picture Books series which is comprised of story generation systems developed at De La Salle University Manila. It focuses specifically on Picture Books 1, a personal computer based application that generates stories for children from a given picture defined by its users using a predefined set of backgrounds, characters and objects. Mobile Picture Books extends the availability and accessibility of Picture Books 1 by designing and developing it using the user interface standards of tablet devices while retaining the story planning and generation processes of its predecessor. The semantic ontology containing storytelling concepts is implemented using the built-in-database in Android devices, SQLife and this database implementation is the main revision in the porting of the story generation algorithm. Mobile Picture Books gives emphasis to user interface and user experience it is made available in Android devices with screen of 7 and Features such as the user library which contains the generated stories sizes and the dictionary are also included in the application. Tests performed on children age 6-8 years showed that the mobile device implementation further interested the children to use the system and the touch screen capabilities and portability of the device facilitate ease of use.
